ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine the content of microplastics in water and sediments found in the waters of Tuapejat Village, Sipora Utara District, Mentawai Islands Regency. This research was conducted in August 2022 to February 2023. The number of research stations is 3 stations where each station consists of 3 sampling points. Station locations consist of Fish Landing Places a Fish Market (Station I), commercial port of Tua Pejat Harbor (Station II), and a tourist beach of Jati Beach (Station III). Four types of sediment fraction were identified, namely sand and muddy (Station I), gravel (Station II), muddy sediment (Station III). There are three types of microplastic found, namely fiber, film, and fragment where the type of fiber is most commonly found. The highest abundance of microplastics in water and sediment is at stations around the port. Meanwhile, the lowest values for water and sediment were found at stations around TPI.
