Acne vulgaris is influenced by many factors, that is genetic, environments, hormonal, stress, diet, cosmetics, drugs, and mineral deficiency, such as zinc. Level of zinc have an effects on inflammatory process, Propionibacterium acnes activity, pilosebacea unit hyperproliferation, and sebum production which are the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. This was an analytic observational study with cross sectional methode. The subject were 35 medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Riau who were 18 years of age. The data obtained were analyzed using Spearman correlation test. The results of statistical test of plasma zinc levels with acne vulgaris severity showed significant correlation (p=0,003) with the strength of correlatio is moderate (r=-0,490) between plasma zinc level and acne vulgaris levels. These results also show that the lower the plasma zinc level, the more severe the level of acne vulgaris.
