Penggunaan Katalis Cao/Fly Ash Pada Proses Produksi Biodiesel Dari Cpo (Crude Palm Oil)
One of potential renewable energy source is biodiesel. Crude palm oil (CPO) is used as a raw material. Biodiesel synthesis is influenced by several factors, namely the type of catalyst, catalyst weight and the mole ratio of oil: methanol. The catalyst used is heterogeneous solid base catalysts. The purpose of this study is to produce biodiesel from CPO (crude palm oil) using CaO/ fly ash catalyst, and to determine the effect of catalyst weight with having a variation of 5%, 6%, 7%, 8% and the effect of the mole ratio of oil: methanol variation of 1: 4, 1: 5, 1: 6, 1: 7 to the biodiesel yield. Characteristics of biodiesel produced is measured. This research was initiated by the synthesis of CaO / fly ash catalyst, namely modification of CaO from quail eggshells by calcination method at 900°C for 2.5 hours, and then CaO is hydrated by adding distilled water and impregnated with fly ash at 105°C for 4 hours and dehydration at 500°C for 4 hours. Then the transesterification process is carried out at 70 ° C for 2 hours, the stirring speed is 400 rpm and the weight of the catalyst and the mole ratio of oil: methanol according to variables. CaO / fly ash catalyst has a basicity ≥ 9.3 and a surface area of 18.301 m2/g. The highest yield of biodiesel was 90.55% at 7% -b catalyst weight ratio and the mole ratio of oil: methanol 1: 7. The characteristics of biodiesel produced were acid number 0.447 mg-KOH/g, density 877.75 kg/m3, viscosity 4.61 cSt, flash point 145°C, cetane number 52 and methyl ester content 97.76% which are by Indonesian biodiesel standards (SNI 04-7128-2015).
