The Correlation Between The Anxiety Level And The Speaking Ability Of The Second Year Students Of English Study Program Fkip Universitas Riau
The purpose of this research was to find out the correlation between the anxiety level and the speaking ability of the second year students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau. The research design of the study was quantitative research and the population of the study was the second year students of English study program FKIP Universitas Riau. Thus, 35 participants selected from the second year students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau by using cluster random sampling technique. Oral performance of speech was used to know the students' speaking ability and questionnaire was used to know students’ anxiety. The scores showed that the students’ speaking ability were average and the anxiety level were high. The mean score of anxiety level was 87, while the mean score of anxiety level was 73. The result of the study indicated that there was a negative correlation between two variables. The value of correlation coefficient was 0.944. It was on scale 0.08 – 1.00. It meant that the correlation between the anxiety level and the speaking ability of the second year students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau categorized as high correlation.
