Lama Distilasi Air Terhadap Sifat Fisiko-Kimia Minyak Atsiri Bunga Kecombrang (Nicolaia Speciosa Horan)
ABSTRACT
Kecombrang flower is one of the plants that has the potential to produce
essential oils. The aroma of kecombrang flowers is often used as a flavoring agent
in cooking. This study aimed to obtain the optimal distillation time for the quality
of kecombrang flower essential oil by using water distillation method. This
research was experimentally conducted by using a completely randomized design
(RAL) which consists of 4 treatments and each treatment was repeated 4 times.
The treatments of distillation time were 3, 4, 5, and 6 hours respectedly. Data were
statistically analyzed by using analysis of variance and continued with duncan's
new multiple range test at 5%. The result showed that distillation time was
significantly affected yield, refractive index, solubility in alcohol, ester number,
acid number and sensory test of flavour and colour. The best treatment in this
research was T3 (5 hours) with yields of 7.04%, refractive index of 1.502, solubility
in alcohol of 1:1, ester numbers of 23.09 mg KOH/g, and acid numbers of 1.67 mg
KOH/g. The result of descriptive test of kecombrang flower oil showed that the oil
had yellow color, scented kecombrang flower’s and overall hedonically assessment
was favored by panelists.
