Analisis Penawaran Dan Permintaan Pala Indonesia Di Pasar Internasional
Indonesia is the largest nutmeg producing country globally, followed by
Guatemala, India and Nepal. Indonesian nutmeg development is constrained by
the low productivity and quality of nutmeg caused by inappropriate cultivation
techniques. This study aims to analyze the response of supply and demand for
Indonesian nutmeg in the international market. This research used the secondary
data collected from various sources including the Food Agriculture Organization
(FAO) and the World Bank. This research is a quantitative research that used an
econometric approach by constructed a simultaneous equation model. The data
was analyzed with Two-Stage Least Square (2SLS) method.
The results of this research showed that in short term, there were some
responsive factors affecting by the supply and demand of Indonesian nutmeg. The
factors are the export of Guatemala nutmeg and the production of Guatemala
nutmeg. Responsive factors in the long terms are the price of fertilizer urea
Indonesia in the previous year , the growth harvest area of Guatemala nutmeg ,
the Nepal nutmeg harvest area, the exchange rate of Rupees against US dollars,
the export of Guatemala nutmeg, the production of Guatemala nutmeg, India per
capita income, the Nepal nutmeg export, the supply of Indonesian nutmeg, and the
world nutmeg prices. Therefore, policies that can be taken by the Government to
increase productivity and quality of Indonesian nutmeg through intensification
programs are to improve cultivation techniques according to GAP (Good
Agricultural Practices), providing superior and certified varieties of seeds, also
improve post-harvest handling of nutmeg that affect the nutmeg quality by
providing technological supports and post-harvest facilities for nutmeg farmers,
doing rehabilitation and make efforts to increase value added through
diversification programs by concearning to build downstream nutmeg industries,
as well as opening opportunities for the expansion of the Indonesian nutmeg
market.
