Prarancangan Pabrik Ester Metil Sulfonat Dari Crude Palm Oil Menggunakan Proses Chemiton Dengan Disain Alat Utama Methanol Recuperation Column (T-102)
ABSTRACT
The development of the palm oil industry in Indonesia tends to focus on food products, whereas the largest added value obtained is in non-food products used by the cosmetics, oleochemical, soap and detergent industries. Surfactants have nearly eight times added value when compared to crude palm oil (CPO and PKO). In general, surfactants are synthesized from petroleum and natural gas derivatives. Surfactants that are currently being developed include methyl ester sulfonate (MES) derived from vegetable oils. The vegetable oil used is crude palm oil (CPO). MES surfactants are widely used for the detergent, cosmetic, paper, paint, and as additives in the Enhanced Oil Recovery process. MES surfactants are produced by reacting methyl esters with sulfonating agents. The purpose of this plant design is to meet the needs of industries for downstream products, reduce imports of raw materials from abroad, develop domestic downstream industries, and add value added products from palm oil. The location of the methyl ester sulfonate (MES) plant from crude palm oil (CPO) is planned to be in the Maloy industrial area, East Kalimantan, with a plant capacity of 90,000 tons/year. The main tool design is a methanol recuperation column (T-102) which functions to purify methanol and recover methanol from the transesterification process. The type of distillation column used is binary distillation with an H:D ratio of 10:1. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the plant, a methyl ester sulfonate (MES) plant from crude palm oil (CPO) is feasible with a PBP of 2.46 years, an IRR of 22.90%, an ROI of 21.06%, and a BEP of 40%. .
