Pemanfaatan Ekstrak Rumput Laut Merah (Eucheuma Cottonii) Sebagai Bahan Alami Gel Hand Sanitizer
ABSTRACT
Eucheuma cottonii is a type of red seaweed have bioactive components, one of which is its function as an antibacterial. This study was aimed to determine of the characteristic of hand sanitizer with an active ingredient of E.cottonii extract as an antibacterial. The research method was used experimental, with a non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment was used different extract concentrations, namely 8,10, and 12%. Parameter analysis consisted of yields, phytochemical, anti-bacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis. The hand sanitizer gel containing extract E.cottonii was tested for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, pH, viscocity, and effectiveness of hand sanitizer in reducing on plams of the hand. The results of analysis showed that the yield of extract was 2,22%. Phytochemical test results of E.cottonii exctract containing flavonoid compounds, steroids, and saponin. Exctract of E.cottonii can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis with clear zones of 6.4, 7,73, and 8,97 mm, and bacillus subtilis 9,67, 10,33 and 14, 77 respectively. Gel hand sanitizer cantaining extracts E.cottonii had antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis were 5,00, 6,00 and 8,67 mm and 6.00, 7,00 and 10.33 mm respectively. Hand sanitizer containing extracts E.cottonii were able to reduce the total number of coloni bacteri on plams on the hand for the hand 115-50 to 28-10 colonies/g. E. cottonii exctracts can be used as an active ingredient in hand sanitizer because it contains saponin and flavonoid as bioactive compound that fuction as anti-bacterial.
