Identifying The Difficulties Faced By English Students In English - Indonesian Translation Of Academic Essay
This research intended to find out the students difficulties in translating academic essay from English to Indonesian of students English study program(sixth semester). The researcher formulated a question as the problem as follows: “what are the difficulties facing the English study program students when doing English-Indonesian translation?” This study used Mathieu (2003) theory with consists of five types difficulties translation; Word-choice, grammatical, rhetorical, pragmatic, and cultural issues. The study used descriptive method, to answer the problem the researcher used English study program as the population and used 41 students as sample, they were semester sixth (6C). The result showed the highest number of students’ difficulty is cultural issues (34.4%). The second most difficulties faced by students are rhetorical (32.4%). The third difficulty is pragmatic (14%). The fourth is grammatical (12%) and the last is word choice (7.2%). Therefore, the dominant difficult type faced by the third year students of English study program is cultural issues and rhetorical.
