Education is fundamental aspect in forming and having smart, creative,
and great students to survive in many challenges of global era. It is related to
teacher as human resource, due to their important role and strategic position.
Moreover, it is one of the most important things to have, formal and non-formal.
Therefore, in order to provide the best education for students, many factors have
contribution on teacher performance, such as infrastructure, work environment,
and many more.
Teacher performance is impacted by external factors. Yuyun (2021: 631)
states that external factors are contributing factors which come from outside
themselves on teacher performance, including the physical environment, facilities
and infrastructure, rewards, atmosphere, policies, and administrative systems.
Moreover, Matin (2016: 1) also states that educational facilities and
infrastructure are important resource in supporting teaching and learning
process at school. The more complete infrastructure, the more it will support
school activities to achieve optimal results.
Beside infrastructure, work environment also the factor that contribute on
teacher performance. Similar with the statement of Elfita et al (2019: 38), one of
the external factors that effect teacher performance is the work environment. The
work environment at school is able to support the learning process, including
school leadership, organizational climate, existence of work spaces, air
circulation, room models, room contrast, lighting, position of doors and windows,
work facilities, blackboards and teacher's desks, accessories, placement of chairs,
arrangement of learning media, availability of books that have the potential to
support the continuity of teacher work. Therefore, good work environment can
create a conducive partnership of teacher to other teacher and student.
The writer is conducting a study on the effect of infrastructure and work
environment on teacher performance in Public Junior High Schools at Dumai
Barat District and to determine the positive and significant effect of infrastructure
on teacher performance and the positive and significant effect of the work
environment on teacher performance. The studyer aims to analyze the effect of
infrastructure and the work environment together on the performance of teachers
at Public Junior High Schools at Dumai Barat District. The descriptive statistical
analysis techniques and inferential statistical analysis are used in this study. The
population of this study were all teachers of Public Junior High Schools at Dumai
Barat District with 132 teachers, while the sample was selected through cluster
random sampling consisting of 100 teachers. Data collection was carried out
using a questionnaire with 3 variables (infrastructure, work environment, and
teacher performance).
The results of this study are presented in descriptive analysis to show the
effect of infrastructure and work environment on teacher performance in Public
Junior High Schools at Dumai Barat District. This can be seen from the
percentage of the questionnaire which shows the positive effect of infrastructure

on teacher performance. There is positive effect of infrastructure (X1) on teacher
performance (Y) indicated by the regression equation Ŷ= 94.822 + 0.211 X1. It
can be seen from the contribution value of 21.1% that the strength or weakness of
a teacher's performance is determined by the infrastructure, the higher the score
for the infrastructure, the higher the teacher's performance. There is positive
effect of the work environment (X2) on teacher performance (Y) indicated by the
regression equation Ŷ = 60.461 + 0.521 X1. It can be seen on contribution value
of 47.1%, it can be concluded that the strengthening or weakening of a teacher's
performance can be seen in his work environment. The higher the value of the
work environment, the higher the teacher's performance. There is a positive effect
of infrastructure (X1) and work environment (X2) together on teacher performance
(Y) as shown by the regression equation Ŷ= 48.858 + 0.116 X1 + 0.496 X2. As
shown by the contribution reinforcement or the weakening of a teacher's
performance is determined by the infrastructure and work environment. The
higher the value of infrastructure and work environment, the higher the teacher's
performance.
Therefore, it can be seen that the three hypotheses put forward in this
study are acceptable, such as infrastructure and work environment individually or
collectively have positive and significant effect on teacher performance.
