Karakteristik Biochar Pelepah Kelapa Sawit Dan Tempurung Kelapa Serta Pengaruhnya Terhadap Sifat Tanah Bergambut, Pertumbuhan Dan Hasil Jagung Manis (Zea Mays L.)
Peat soils have a low pH, high cation exchange capacity, low base
saturation, and low nutrient content. One of the efforts in peat soil management is
the addition of ameliorants such as Biochar. Biochar can improve soil fertility
and absorb C, increase pH, increase nutrient availability, nutrient retention, and
soil cation exchange capacity. The objectives of the study were to analyze the
physical and chemical properties of Biochar from palm fronds and coconut shells,
analyze the effect of Biochar from palm fronds and coconut shells on the growth
and yield of sweet corn plants and determine the appropriate dose of Biochar
from the treatment of Biochar from palm fronds and coconut shells on the growth
and yield of sweet corn plants. The research was conducted on peatland in
Tualang Village, Siak District. The condition of the peatland used in this study
was that it had a thickness of 20⎼30 cm of organic soil material. The research was
conducted experimentally using a factorial randomized group design (RAK),
namely the type of Biochar and the dose of Biochar. The combination of the two
factors was obtained as many as 8 treatment combinations that were repeated 3
times so that 24 experimental plots were obtained. The data obtained were
statistically analyzed using Analysis of Varience (ANOVA). The results of
variance that significantly influenced were continued with Duncan's multiple
range test at the 5% level. The pH, total C, total N, C/N, total P, available P, total
K, total Na and moisture content, volume and pore size of coconut shell Biochar
were higher than palm frond Biochar. However, the value of total Mg, total Ca,
CEC and ash content and surface area of palm frond Biochar were greater than
the surface area of coconut shell Biochar. The application of palm frond Biochar
gave the highest results in the parameters of the weight of the cob, the length of
the cob, the diameter of the cob, the weight of the cob without the cob, the length
of the cob without the cob and the diameter of the cob without the cob of sweet
corn plants when compared to the application of coconut shell Biochar. Biochar
application of oil palm fronds and coconut shells at a dose of 12 tons/ha is the
best treatment to produce sweet corn weight with or without cob.
Key Words : Oil Palm Frond Biochar, Coconut Shell Biochar, Peat.
