Pengaruh Konsentrasi Ekstrak Rumput Laut Cokelat (Sargassum Plagyophyllum) Terhadap Karakteristik Hand Sanitizer
ABSTRACT
Sargassum plagyophyllum seaweed is one of the fishery commodities that has a source of bioactive compounds in the form of secondary metabolites that can be utilized as antibacterial compounds in the manufacture of hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizer is a gel-shaped preparation that contains natural and synthetic antibacterial active substances. This study aims to determine the best concentration of S. plagyophyllum extract hand sanitizer, obtain phytochemical components and test antibacterial activity. This study consists of maceration of S. plagyophyllum seaweed, extract characterization which includes phytochemical screening and antibacterial analysis of S. palgyophyllum extract hand sanitizer at different extract concentrations of 2, 4, and 6% w/v. The methanol extract of S. plagyophyllum has a yield of 1.32% and contains alkaloid, steroid, saponin, and phenolic bioactive compounds. When viewed from antibacterial activity, it was found that the addition of S. plagyophyllum extract in the manufacture of hand sanitizers had an inhibition zone against gram-positive bacteria (L. monocytogenes) and gram-negative bacteria (P. aeruginosa), the diameter of growth inhibition of gram-negative bacteria (10.67 ± 0.58 mm) was greater than gram-positive bacteria (9.33 ± 0.58 mm) at the highest extract concentration (6%).
