The Correlation Between University Student's Emotional Intelligence And Their Achievement In Reading Comprehension

The aims of this study were to find out the correlation between students' emotional intelligence and their achievement in reading comprehension.This study applied a correlational design. The population consisted of all of the fourth-semester students of the English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Riau in the academic year 2020/2021. The writer used cluster random sampling, and among the three classes as the population, class A was chosen as the sample, consisting of 32 students. The data were collected from two instruments, namely, a questionnaire was used to collect the data on students’ emotional intelligence and a reading test was used to collect the data on their English reading comprehension. There was a very weak correlation between students’ emotional intelligence scores and their achievement in reading comprehension
