Sejarah Perubahan Nama Zona Ekonomi Eksklusif Indonesia Di Laut Cina Selatan Menjadi Laut Natuna Utara (1982-2017)

Indonesia as an archipelagic country has vast territorial waters, but this is not accompanied by a strong maritime defense system. This has led to violations of sovereignty in Indonesia's sea territory, one of which is the violation of sea territory committed by Chinese ships in the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone in the South China Sea, which prompted Indonesia to react by changing the name of the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone in the South China Sea to the Sea. North Natuna.
The aims of this study are to determine: 1) Indonesia's EEZ area in the South China Sea after the 1982 UNCLOS; 2) The basis of China's claim on Indonesia's EEZ in the South China Sea; 3) The impact of China's claims on Indonesia's EEZ in the South China Sea; 4) The process of changing the name of Indonesia's EEZ in the South China Sea to the North Natuna Sea in 2017 and its impact on Indonesia.
The method used in this study is the historical method, in which there are four stages to be carried out, namely: 1) Heuristics; 2) Verification; 3) Interpretation; and 4) Historiography. The data collection technique used is literature study. Data analysis used in this study is data reduction, data presentation, and verification.
The results of this study are: 1) Indonesia's EEZ area in the South China Sea is determined by UNCLOS 1982 and is recognized internationally, which is 200 miles measured from the outermost coastline facing the South China Sea; 2) The basis of China's claims in the South China Sea are maps made since the Kuomintang era in 1947, historical claims of Chinese traditional fishing areas since 2000 years ago, and maps attached to protest notes to the United Nations No. CML/17/2009; 3) The impact of China's claim has a negative impact on sovereignty, the economy, and the defense and security of Indonesia's maritime territory in the South China Sea; 4) Due to incidents of violations of Indonesia's EEZ in the South China Sea, on July 14 2017, Indonesia updated its map and changed the name of its EEZ in the South China Sea to the North Natuna Sea and had a positive impact on sovereignty, economy, and defense and security.
The conclusion that can be drawn from the research that has been done is that the change in the name of the South China Sea on Indonesian maps to the North

Natuna Sea on 14 July 2017 was the result of a long event related to violations of sovereignty since the ratification of UNCLOS in 1982 where the Exclusive Economic Zone internationally recognized as a zone of sovereign rights of a coastal state. The advice that researchers can give is that the protection of Indonesia's sovereign zone is the responsibility of the state, therefore strengthening defense in the sovereign rights zone is necessary so that repeated violations do not occur.
