Studi Dampak Implementasi Ruang Kelola Partisipatif Untuk Mitigasi Konflik Gajah Sumatra (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus) Dengan Manusia Di Desa Pinggir Dan Kelurahan Balai Raja Kecamatan Pinggir
ABSTRACT
The Wanatani program initiated for the management of Sumatran elephants in the Balai Raja habitat area aims to reduce conflicts between elephants and humans. This research was conducted to understand the perceptions, attitudes, and views of the community towards the concept of elephant-human space implemented through the Wanatani pattern, which involves the use of plants not consumed by elephants as a conflict prevention measure. The sampling method in this study involved direct interviews with 21 respondents who were beneficiaries of the Wanatani program. The research results show that the community's perception in the villages of Pinggir and the Balai Raja sub-district is generally positive towards elephants. The mitigation method applied, namely the Wanatani system, received a positive response from the community. The majority of the community in the villages of Pinggir and Balai Raja believe that the Wanatani system has a positive impact, and they are willing to share space with Sumatran elephants. This indicates community support for the Wanatani program and awareness of the importance of maintaining the balance between humans and wildlife such as Sumatran elephants. With the understanding and willingness of the community to share space with elephants, the Wanatani program has the potential to be an effective solution in reducing conflicts between elephants and humans in the Balai Raja area.
