Sonneratia alba mangroves has secondary metabolite compounds such as
alkaloids, phenols, tannins, saponins, and flavonoids, which function as
antioxidants. In this study, the effect of Sonneratia alba mangrove fruit extract on
the expression of Cluster of Differentiation 3 (CD3) in rats fed a high-fat diet will
be analyzed. A total of 16 prepared slides filled with glomerular tissue of male white
rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain were divided into 3 groups: the standard
group (S) was given a normal diet, positive control group (P) was given an
atherogenic diet while treatment group (T) was given an atherogenic diet and
Sonneratia alba mangrove fruit extract. The effect of Sonneratia alba mangrove
fruit extract on the expression of CD3 was assessed by immunohistochemical
examination. The CD3 expression area is expressed in percent and taken at 5 fields
of view. The CD3 expression area was examined using the Photoshop Image
Analysis application. The results of this study showed that the average expression
of CD3 in the S, P and T groups was (0.933 ± 0.381%), (3.870 ± 2.434%), and
(1.384 ± 0.502%), respectively. Statistical analysis with One-Way ANOVA showed
a significant difference (p = 0.017). Further analysis using Post Hoc tests showed
a significant difference in the S and P groups (p = 0.035), as well as in the P and T
groups (p = 0.047). Based on these results, it can be concluded that Sonneratia
alba mangrove fruit extract was able to reduce CD3 expression in the glomeruli of
rats fed a high-fat diet.
