News program is very necessary> for private sector television station and at
this moment beholder is progressively given freedom to choose to display news.
Metro TV is one of national mass media who priority news program since early
forming in November 25th, 2000. Moreover, Metro TV even do the new
breakthrough presented display news which do not only have Indonesian and
English, but also have Mandarin language. Metro Xin Wen become the single
displaying news have Mandarin language in national television. Target of this
research is to know The Interest Of Watching Ethnically Tionghoa in Sub-District
Of Sekip District Lima Puluh Pekanbaru toward Metro Xin Wen. and also factors
that pushing Ethnical of Tionghoa in Sub-District Of Sekip District Lima Puluh
Pekanbaru watching Metro Xin Wen.
This Research use quantitative descriptive method, that is measurement to
symptom perceived, so that data collecting by using questionnaire have structure
(enquette), documentation and unstructured interview. Furthermore, researcher
try to explain clearly the answer of respondent to raised problems. From 93
obtained responder pursuant to intake of sample with technique of purposive
sampling, then the data analyzed through the labulationly of data.
The result of this research shown that Metro Xin Wen program have been
drawn Ethnical enthusiasm of Tionghoa at good enough category, that is 70 %
rate. From Uses and Gratification perspective, the public who in this case is
Ethnical Tionghoa, have obtained satisfaction as the end of watching Metro Xin
Wen Program, it because the program’s had more Chinese moral value. And then,
becoming factors impeller of Ethnical enthusiasm of Tionghoa to look on Metro
Xin Wen for example like requirement obtain; get information, contiguity to
language and culture, and also desire to deepen language Mandarin.
