Karakterisasi Viabilitas dan Vigor Biji Poliembrioni Jeruk Nipis (Citrus Aurantifolia (Christm.) Swingle) Berdasarkan Morfologi dan Biokimia
The current availability of citrus fruit is still insufficient because it is only cultivated on a small scale by the community. Another problem faced in citrus development is the limited area of citrus plantations and the limited availability of high quality seeds. Seed viability is a reflection to determine physiological quality before planting and estimate the viability and vigor status of seeds. This research aims to determine the viability and vigor of lime polyembryonic seeds (Citrus aurantifolia) based on the morphological characters of the fruit and seeds as well as biochemical characters using the tetrazolium test and germination test. The research results obtained two shape of lime fruit (spheroid and ellipsoid), four forms of lime seeds (ovoid, semi-spheroid, clavate and spheroid). Seed viability and vigor testing was carried out using 2 methods, namely the tetrazoilum test and germination test. The tetrazolium test results showed that the percentage of viable seeds was 90%, while the percentage of germination test was slightly higher at 91.3%±7. The percentage of polyembryony in this study reached 43.79%±12.4 with a maximum of four seedlings per seed capable of growing and the most embryos growing into seedlings were two embryos reaching 72.9%. The average germination rate was 33.1±0.3 days and the average vigor index was 88.3%±11.9. Single seedlings tend to have higher hypothetical vigor values compared to multiple seedlings.
Key findings: Germination test, lime, polyembryonic, tetrazolium test
