21st century skills refer to the skills that a person needs to face the challenges of the 21st century which are active globally, digital transformation, collaboratively moving forward, increased creativity, competent search for resources and quickly adapting to change. 21st century skills are grouped into three components, namely basic literacy such as cultural literacy and citizenship, competency components such as communication and collaboration and character quality components such as adaptiveness and social and cultural sensitivity. Cultural intelligence (KB) is a meta-competency that identifies key competencies, attributes and skills that contribute to the ability to interact effectively, adapt and make effective decisions in unfamiliar, and often complex and diverse, cultural environments.
This research was carried out in March-December on Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University Class of 2020 and 2021 taking the Bioethnomelayu course. This research is descriptive research using a quantitative approach and survey methods. The research aims to determine the profile and level of cultural intelligence of Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University and how students' cultural intelligence relates to 21st century skills. The research results show that the cultural intelligence profile of Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University is in the medium and high categories. The dimension that has a high mean is the behavioral dimension. The level of cultural intelligence of Riau University Biology Education students in Semester 7 and Semester 5 is mostly classified as moderate. Judging from the three categories of students in the 5th semester of Biology Education, FKIP, Riau University, there is a higher percentage of students in the 7th semester. Overall, the cultural intelligence of the 7th semester students is higher than in the 5th semester, this is influenced by their experience. This difference in the level of cultural intelligence is also influenced by differences in age, region of origin, and ethnicity which are factors in the differences in the level of cultural intelligence of students in semester 5 and semester 7 of Biology Education, FKIP, Riau University. . This proves that some Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University have quite good cultural intelligence, where students have been able to adapt, search for information and choose the right strategy to interact with fellow friends and indigenous communities.
Cultural Intelligence in the perspective of 21st Century Skills in the cognitive dimension is quite dominant in cultural literacy and citizenship. The Motivation and Behavior dimensions are more dominant in the aspects of communication, collaboration, adaptiveness and social and cultural sensitivity.
