Evaluasi Kinerja Mechanical Draft Cooling Tower Pada Sulfuric Acid Plant
In the Chemical Plant Department at PT Asia Pacific Rayon, especially the Sulfuric Acid Plant, there is one important piece of equipment, namely a mechanical counter flow type cooling tower. This type of cooling tower has an open circulation system that operates 24 hours/day with a cooling capacity of 0.1506 m3℃/hour. In this final project, range, approach and effectiveness values were measured to evaluate cooling tower performance, and the data was compared with design data for the cooling tower equipment. Based on the measurement results, actual average data was obtained for the range value of 7.54℃, approach 3.57℃, and effectiveness of 68.07%, where this data was obtained from the inlet and outlet water temperatures checked from the DCS and the wet bulb temperature checked. measured using a hygrometer. Based on this data, there is a difference in the comparison of effectiveness between actual data and design data of 3.21% which is due to the growth of microorganisms in the cooling tower filler which inhibits contact between water and air. The performance of the cooling tower is also seen from the quality of the cooling tower water which is monitored from the LSI value. The LSI value is obtained by checking the pH, TDS, temperature, alkalinity and hardness parameters obtained from APR QC. The LSI value in the cooling water basin is 0.61, which indicates that the water is scaling and the make-up water is corrosive -4.39. Based on the costs that must be incurred for water treatment, it can be concluded that at a COC value of 8, the costs that must be incurred in four weeks if chemical dosage is not carried out are IDR 281,181,946,-, whereas if chemical dosage is carried out it is IDR 176,961,351,- . So it can be concluded that the cost of adding chemical dosage is smaller than the cost of make-up water alone without adding chemical dosage.
