Lama Aktivasi Secara Fisika Terhadap Arang Aktif Sabut Buah Pinang
This study aims to obtain selected characteristics of activated charcoal made from areca palm fiber with physical activation using high temperatures. This study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatment in this study was an activation time of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours. Observations were made on the moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, pure carbon content, and iodine absorption. The data obtained were analyzed statisticallyusing statistical software IBM SPSS version 23 with an analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, if Fcount ≥ Ftable then the treatment had a significant effect, and the analysis will be continued with the further test of Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) at level 5%. The results showed that increasing the activation time had a significant effect on the resulting activated charcoal. Activated charcoal with the best treatment was found in the A5 of activation resulting in a value with an moisture content of 2.70%, ash content of 4.50%, volatile matter content of 13.49%, pure carbon content of 79.93% and absorption of iodine of 955.98 mg/g.
