ABSTRACT

Benzotrichloride is widely used in the synthetic dye industry, organic synthesis, and as an intermediate in the chemical industry (Larranaga, et al. 2016). Benzotrichloride is also used in the manufacture of benzoyl chloride, chlorinated toluene, benzotrifluoride, benzoic acid, and as a color intermediate (EPA, 1986). Not only that, benzotrichloride is also used as an ingredient in producing the ultraviolet light stabilizer hydroxybenzophenone. This chemical is also used in industrial plastics for its adhesive properties, to reduce bitterness and soften polymers. A study of the feasibility of building a benzotrichloride plant is necessary for the purpose of analyzing the feasibility of investment. The analysis was carried out quantitatively based on the criteria of NPV, IRR, ROI, PBP, BEP, and sensitivity analysis. The study results show that a benzotrichloride factory is feasible to build with a production capacity of 10,000 tons/year. Based on non-financial analysis consisting of market, environment, management and law, there are no obstacles that hinder the construction and operation of the factory. Based on financial analysis, factory construction can be carried out with an NPV value of IDR 425,297,314,032; ROI “48.639%,” PBP 1.16 years; The BEP is 40%, and the IRR is 22.78%, which is higher than BRI's RRR value of 22.55%, so this polyvinyl alcohol factory is suitable to proceed to the development stage.
