Komposisi Hasil Tangkapan Purse Seine Nelayan Pelabuhan Perikanan Samudera Belawan Provinsi Sumatera Utara
Purse seine is one of the primary fishing gears used at the Belawan Ocean Fishery Port, North Sumatra. However, the composition and quantity of the main catch and by-catch from purse seine operations in the Belawan waters are not yet detailed. This study aims to identify the composition of purse seine catches based on the categories of main catch and by-catch. The research was conducted from April to May 2024 at the Belawan Ocean Fishery Port. Results indicate that the total purse seine catch in Belawan during the period 2019 to 2023 peaked in 2022 with a percentage of 32.5%, while the lowest recorded catch was in 2019, at 9.3%. The composition of the main catch includes layang deles (Decapterus macrosoma) at 48.6%, kembung (Rastrelliger spp.) at 13.8%, and selar kuning (Selaroides leptolepis) at 8.1%. The by-catch primarily consists of bawal (Parastromateus niger) at 3.2%, squid (Loligo spp.) at 8.4%, and tongkol (Euthynnus affinis) at 5.9%. This data provides an overview of the dominant species in the purse seine catch in Belawan and its contribution to sustainable fishery management in the region.
