Representasi Kritik Berbahasa Melayu Tentang Kabut Asap Pada Pojok Atan Sengat Di Harian Pagi Riau Pos

Smog occurred in Riau every year. The smog in 2015 became the longest time and very severe compared with previous years. That’s get the media attention, especially Riau Pos which is the largest newspaper in Riau. Atan Sengat’s cartoon the mascot of Riau Pos which has been criticized about haze associated with his trademark use of the Malay language and say what it is. Therefore, this study aims to determine the meaning contained in the criticism of Malay Language in the Pojok Atan Sengat and ideologies of the Riau Pos associated haze in Riau during June to September 2015.
Method of this research is qualitative research method with semiotic approach. Data collection techniques that interview and documentation. Data were analyzed using analysis of Roland Barthes Semiotics. The unit of data analysis in this research consist of Pojok Atan Sengat of the criticism about the news of smog that contained the main page of Riau Pos from June to September 2015.
The results show: first, in denotation, criticism of Malay in Pojok Atan Sengat is intended to provide information from the media, public opinion, and the hope of the people in Riau who affected haze. In connotations, Pojok Atan Sengat give emotion or feeling at any criticism that it conveys, namely: happy when rain, sad when smog is getting dangerous, disappointed to the unsuccessful efforts by governments, and angry at the state of the inability to haze that overcome. In the meaning of the myth of the Pojok Atan Sengat, the citizen of Riau increasingly remembering Allah by praying and doing istisqa because the identical of Malays are Muslims, Riau public resentment because leaders do not trust and do not accordance with Tunjuk Ajar Melayu, and theccriticism of Atan Sengat is considered polite and not provoke the anger of others. Second, the Riau Pos’s ideology shaped by external parties such as government, private, and citizen. Headlines contain about the steps undertaken by the government and private sector in handling the smog that defines the cooperation between the media and both parties. Laying the Pojok Atan Sengat on the front page has an interest to give focus to the reader or the people of Riau as it pertains to the headlines because those are eye-catching.
