Bioarang Cangkang Biji Ketapang (Terminalia Catappa L.) Sebagai Adsorben Kation Fe(III) Di Dalam Larutan
SUMMARY
Ketapang tree that has grown around the University of Riau give ketapang shell which difficult to degradation. In other side, ketapang sell contained carbon which can use as adsorbent. This research was used ketapang shell (Terminalia Catappa L.) as an adsorbent through the process of carbonization of ketapang seeds into biocharcoal. The carbonization has been carried out at 400 °C for 30 and 90 minutes. Each adsorbent was given a symbol according to carbonization time of BCK-30 and BCK-90. Adsorbent was characterized using SEM-EDX for the morphology of the surface and element detection. Zero Point Charge(pHzpc)of adsorbent was determined before adsorption test. Adsorption of Fe(III) from solutions used batch method to determine the optimum of pH, adsorbent doses and the contact times of adsorption process. Characterization used SEM-EDX showed the morphology for every biocharcoal has a heterogeneous pores, while the content of carbon are 92,70% for BCK-30 and 92,15% for BCK-90, respectively. Zero Point Charge (pHzpc) of two adsorbent are pH 6 for BCK-30 and pH 6-7 for BCK-90. Both of them, BCK-30 and BCK-90 showed the maximum adsorption in pH 6, adsorben doses 0,5 g and contact times in 30 minutes. In this condition, efficiency of adsorption in each adsorbent are 96,73% for BCK-30 and 98,62% for BCK-90, respectively. According to kinetic adsorption showed that adsorption of cation Fe(III) by biocharcoal catappa shell followed the pseudo second-orde.
