Penentuan Nilai Suseptibilitas Magnetik Dan Komposisi Dari Pasir Besi Pantai Batang Kapas Sumatera Barat
Magnetic susceptibility measurements of the iron oxide (concentrate) particles and
the identification of elemental content of iron sand deposits from Batang Kapas coast
of Pesisir Selatan Selatan West Sumatra have been conducted. The sample was dried
under sunlight before first separating the magnetic particles and sand from the iron
sand using Iron Sand Separator. Identification of the element content contained in
iron sand was done using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). The total magnetic induction
value was measured using Pasco PS-2162 magnetic probe sensor by utilizing a
solenoid made of 2000 windings with 10 cm long solenoid length and 3 cm diameter.
The solenoid was given an electric current in the range of 2 – 10 A. When an electric
current increase the total magnetic induction is also increase, and the total magnetic
induction value decreases as the horizontal distance increases. Magnetic susceptibility
of the sampel was calculated based on the magnetic induction of solenoid with core
(iron sand) magnetic induction of solenoid without core for which the electric current
of 10 A and distance of 1 mm. The magnetic susceptibility obtained is in the range of
ilminate mineral FeTiO3 that is 50 – 876 × 10-5.
