In the legislative election in Indonesia, women legislative candidates are given special privileges, namely affirmative action or known as "quota" of women which requires at least 30% of the candidates registered even ven in political party stewardship. The number of women candidates in the 2014 Election in Lingga Regency is 31.5% of all candidates. The placement of the sequence number also indicates the absence of women candidates in the sequence number 1. Therefore, it appears that women legislative candidates are not well recruited and only as a complement to the quota.
The purpose of this research is to know the process of political recruitment of women candidates by political parties in Lingga Regency in legislative election 2014. Then developed into two sub-purposes are: (a.) To find out how political parties in selecting and assigning women candidates; and (b.) To find out how political parties provide support to women candidates.
The results showed that there are similarities in the effort of political parties to recruit women candidates by prioritizing internal female members of the party. However, the available cadres are not willing to be nominated so that political parties recruit candidates from outside of the party. Moreover, in terms of support of political parties to women candidates who had been recruited can be said that the support provided has not been able to lift the competitiveness of women candidates and most of the women candidates are not ready to be nominated. This unreadiness can be seen from positions of less ideal sequence numbers, educational background difficulties with archipelago-shaped regions, and financial capital. While the election of Seniy as the elected female candidate and highest vote obtainer is purely because she has prepared herself with a campaign strategy and adequate political capital.
