ABSTRACT
The physical development of the building and the expansion of the campus area as
well as the improvement of services encourage an increase in the number of
students and people visiting the campus. The same thing has happened in the
campus environment of Muhammadiyah Riau University (UMRI) for the last few
years. The increasing number of students and employees causes an increase in the
volume of vehicles. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics
of parking and the need for parking space in the parking area of campus II
Muhammadiyah Riau University. The parking characteristics are parking volume,
parking duration, parking accumulation, parking index and parking turnover rate.
The total area of parking space for two-wheeled vehicles is 2.185 m2 with a total
SRP of 926 and for four-wheeled vehicles is 1.656 m2 with a total SRP of 65.
From the calculation results and field survey results, it is found that the maximum
parking accumulation exceeds the available parking capacity and there is open
land. which can be used as the addition of new land with an area of 1.870 m2, the
number of parking lots for two-wheeled vehicles is 1.575 SRP, while what is
needed is only 951 SRP and the number of parking lots for four-wheeled vehicles
is 85 SRP while what is needed is only 77 SRP, so the need for parking is already
enough to accommodate the number of vehicles.
