Kepentingan India Menaikkan Tarif Bea Masuk Impor Crude Palm Oil (Cpo)
India is the largest Crude Palm Oil (CPO) market in the world due to the huge demand from the country. This happens because the domestic production of CPO cannot meet their needs. However, from 2017 to 2018, India increased import duty tariffs on CPO. This policy was made during the reign of Narendra Modi and when the demand for CPO from India was high. This study aims to determine India's interest in increasing the import duty rate for CPO.
Based on these problems, researchers use protectionism theory, in this theory the government must take action to protect its domestic industry by imposing policies such as customs duties, quota restrictions, taxes, and import tariffs. The theory of protectionism can be used to analyze India's interest in increasing import duties on CPO. This research also uses the perspective of mercantilism which considers the state as the main actor who will always try to achieve its national interests, including by means of an economic way.
There are five results from this study which explain the reasons for India to increase import duty tariffs on CPO from 2017 to 2018. First, India's trade politics because this country plays an important role in the global vegetable oil market so that the increase in import tariffs can generate profits. for India. Second, the influence of Narendra Modi's protectionist economic policies. Third, India seeks to protect vegetable oil farmers in the country. Fourth, the country has ambitions to develop its own oil palm plantations. Lastly, the limit on the increase in import duty on Indian vegetable oil provided by the WTO is very large, reaching 300%.
