Persepsi Mahasiswa Universitas Riau Terhadap Berita Bohong (Hoax) Dan Ujaran Kebencian (Studi Kasus Pada Pemilihan Presiden 2019)
The background of this research is motivated by the increasing rate of spread of fake news (hoax) and hate speech among students. Fake news and hate speech occurred in 2019 at the time of the presidential election. The purpose of the study was to find out how the perception of Riau University students towards Fake News (Hoax) and Hate Speech (Case Study in the 2019 Presidential Election). The benefits of research results are to be a source of learning for all parties, especially in students in terms of the ability to understand, analyze, and deconstruct the content of messages from information released by the media and provide critical awareness for students when dealing with media content. This research method is descriptive quantitative, data collection instruments used in this study, namely questionnaires, interviews, and documentation consisting of 9 indicators with 24 questions. The population in this study is Riau University Students. Sampling of the entire population was taken using quota sampling techniques and to determine respondents consisting of 10 researchers using accidental sampling techniques. Based on the results of the study, the results of the average percentage value of alternative respondents were dominant respondents, which was 47.54% where this range was in the category "Less Good" with a presence in the range of 25.01%-50%. Thus it can be concluded that the Perception of Riau University Students Towards Fake News (Hoax) and Hate Speech (Case Study in the 2019 Presidential Election) is Less Good.
