Pengembangan Bahan Ajar Berbasis Discovery Learning Pada Materi Pythagoras untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Komunikasi Matematis Peserta Didik Fase D
This research was motivated by the low mathematical communication skills of students. This is influenced by the lack of independent learning habits, limited learning resources, and the lack of variety in learning approaches. To overcome this challenge, learning strategies are needed that support mathematical communication skills, such as discovery learning. Therefore, this research aims to produce teaching materials based on discovery learning on Pythagorean material to improve mathematical communication skills. The research adopts a 4-D development model which includes Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate. Data collection techniques used were interviews, questionnaires and tests. The instruments used were validity sheets, student response questionnaires, and mathematical communication ability tests.
At the Define stage, researchers clearly define and identify the requirements and needs related to development. Activities carried out in this stage include beginning-to-end analysis, researchers analyzing teaching materials at school and collecting data from various sources. At the student analysis stage, data regarding student characteristics is collected. At the concept analysis stage, researchers obtained four concepts that were compiled, namely the concept of the Pythagorean theorem, Pythagorean triples, special triangles, and the application of the Pythagorean theorem. At the task analysis stage, researchers analyzed learning outcomes from the Independent Curriculum, especially in Phase D which was related to Pythagorean material. At the learning objective specification stage, researchers identify the objectives to be achieved in learning which are adjusted to task analysis and concept analysis, which will later be integrated with the preparation of teaching materials to be developed.
At the Design stage, the researcher designs teaching materials using steps including compiling tests, selecting media, determining the format, and designing the content of the teaching materials. At the media selection stage, the researcher decided to use print media. In the initial design stage, researchers begin developing teaching materials according to the plans that have been made.
The development stage includes developing teaching materials according to the initial design, product validation, product revision, and product testing. Teaching materials are said to be valid if the minimum level of validity achieved based on the results of the validator's assessment is in the valid category. Teaching materials are said to be practical if the percentage of practicality level is more than 70%. Teaching materials are said to be effective if the average of the experimental class tests is better than the learning outcomes of the control class using the independent sample t-test.
The results of data analysis on the validity of teaching materials found that the average validation score was 91.18% with very valid criteria. The practicality results of teaching materials in limited trials were 81.34% in the practical category. The practicality results of teaching materials in field trials were 76.29%. Thus, it can be concluded that the teaching materials developed meet the practical category.
The results of data analysis tests on mathematical communication abilities showed that the average mathematical communication abilities of students who used discovery learning-based teaching materials were higher than students who did not use discovery learning-based teaching materials. The results of the independent sample t-test found a significance value , which means the value , so there is a difference between students who use discovery learning-based teaching materials and students who do not use discovery learning-based teaching materials.
The dissemination stage is carried out by creating articles for publication, and distributing teaching materials to schools that contributed to this research. This development research has produced teaching materials based on discovery learning on Pythagorean material to improve the mathematical communication skills of phase D students that are valid, practical and effective to use.
