Gambaran Ketebalan Makula Sentral Pada Pasien Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 Di Poli Mata RSUD Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau

Diabetes Melitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. The diagnosis of DM is established based on blood glucose levels and Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test. Increased HbA1c concentration is the most important risk factor in the development of DM complications, especially Diabetic Macular Edema (DME). This study aimed to determine the description of central macular thickness in Type 2 DM patients measured by Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). This study used a descriptive observational design which was carried out at the eye polyclinic of Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province in April 2023-September 2024. The population in this study was all Type 2 DM patients who underwent outpatient treatment at the eye polyclinic in the April-September 2023 period and samples were taken from all populations that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data used was obtained from primary data (interviews and direct examinations) and secondary data (patient medical records). The data analysis method used was univariate analysis. The results obtained in this study were that patients aged 40-50 years had an average macular thickness of 249.00 μm, patients aged 51-60 years had an average macular thickness of 245.91 μm, patients aged 61-70 years had an average macular thickness of 236.57 μm, and patients aged 71-80 years had an average macular thickness of 252.00 μm. Males had an average macular thickness of 251.80 μm, while females had a lower thickness, which was 238.57 μm. Patients with uncontrolled HbA1c had a higher macular thickness (247.31 μm) compared to controlled HbA1c (208.50 μm). The average thickness of the central macula in patients without diabetic retinopathy was 239.25 μm and in patients with diabetic retinopathy was 248.92 μm.
