Pematahan Dormansi Benih Mucuna (Mucuna Bracteata) Dengan Berbagai Konsentrasi KNO3
Mucuna is an important and very useful ground cover crop for rubber and oil palm plantations. Mucuna has a long dormancy period, which is 1 – 2 months after the harvesting process. The use of chemical solutions is one of the effective ways to break dormancy. Solutions commonly used to break dormancy include potassium nitrate solution. The purpose of this study was to determine the germination of mucuna seeds by giving various concentrations of KNO3, and get the best concentration for breaking seed dormancy. The treatment used in this study was seed soaking with various concentrations of KNO3 for 24 hours consisting of 4 treatment levels, namely: K0 = 0% KNO3 (water), K1 = 0.2% KNO3, K2 = 0.4% KNO3, K3 = 0.6% KNO3. The treatment was repeated 5 times so that 20 experimental units were obtained. Soaking mucuna seeds using several concentrations of KNO3 can accelerate the emergence of sprouts, increase germination, increase sprouting power (index value), increase crown fresh weight and root dry weight but does not affect seedling height, root length, root fresh weight, and crown dry weight. The best concentration for breaking mucuna seed dormancy is by soaking seeds using KNO3 concentration of 0.4% for 24 hours.
