Analisis Isi Saluran Pencernaan Ikan Sepat Siam (Trichogaster Pectoralis)
A study aims to understand the stomach content analysis of Trichogaster pectoralis present in the irrigation canals between Eka Hospital until Show Room Honda at Soekarno Hatta street Km 6.5 Pekanbaru has been conducted on February to April 2013. Fish samples were captured using fishing rod and nets once/week for a 3 month period. There were 87 fishes (32 males and 55 females) captured. Stomach fullness was scored (full, medium, and empty) and fish with empty stomach were excluded from this research. Fish stomach was removed and stomach content was analyzed using a volumetric method. Stomach content was identified using a binocular microscope and Preponderance Index (PI) was calculated based on Natarajan and Jhinghran (1961).
Stomach content of fish is related to their size. In small fish (TL less than 135 mm), the main food was plankton, and in the bigger fish (TL more than 135 mm) the main food was crustacean. The PI of fitoplankton was 70% (consist of Chlorophyta 26%, Cyanophyta 25%, Bacillariophyta 18% and Euglenophyta 1%). The PI of zooplankton was 30% (Crustacean 30%). Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the main food of Trichogaster pectoralis is plankton or the fish can be categorized as plankton feeder.
