Aktivisme Transnational Advocacy Network dalam Upaya Menghentikan Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) di Malaysia
This research describes the efforts of transnational advocacy networks that suppress the Malaysian Government to stop the operation of the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) of Lynas Corporation in Kuantan, Malaysia. LAMP is a rare earth element (REE) processing refinery that purify and process REE from Australia. Processing of REE in Malaysia produces dangerous radioactive waste for environment and human health. Lynas Corporation as a company which operates LAMP did not transparently provide the information about the dsiposal and radioactive waste storage. those problems raise the ire of the local communities that brought the community to stop the operation of lamp in gebeng industrial estate and drive the lynas out of malaysia.
This paper uses transnational advocacy network (TAN) concepts which proposed by keck and sikkink to see the efforts of local and international NGOs pressing the Malaysian Government to stop the lamp. the concept is also supported by the theory of global civil society and campaigns theory. and also, this research uses group as unit of analysis level.
The activism acts which undertaken by the transnational network purposed to raise the issue in the country become an international issue which aim that it can affect the domestic policy of the Malaysian Government to immediately stop the operation of lamp. The Malaysian local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) raised the issue by committing the transnational acts and coalition among international NGOs such as Friends of The Earth Australia, Greenpeace, and others trying to sensitize the public against the international norms by using campaign, cyberactivism, online petitions, and others to stop the Lynas.
