Aktivasi Kimia Pelepah Kelapa Sawit (Elaeis Guineensis J.) Serta Adsorpsinya Terhadap Asam Lemak Bebas (Alb) Dari Crude Palm Oil (Cpo)
ABSTRACT
Palm oil stem (POS) is part of the biomass palm oil trees that can be used as adsorbent because it contains cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Preparation of activated adsorbent palm oil stem starting from cutting the samples longitudinal and transversal to a size of ±2 cm then was powdered with Chopper become a fiber and was pulverized into powdered and sieved to a size range 80 < X ≤ 120 mesh. Powder of POS was activated by a solution of 1 M H2SO4 at a temperature of 105 °C for 30 minutes and agitation speed 300 rpm. The mixture was recovered by filtration, drained and neutralized by 1 M NH4OH to produce the adsorbent. Analysis of adsorbent was determined by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), acidity contain by Boehm method and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results of FT-IR analysis was showed the similarity pattern between palm oil stem biomass and palm oil stem activate adsorbent. Analysis of acidity contain was showed a total value of 14.896 mmol/g (carboxyl = 1.949, phenol = 10.237 and lactone = 2.71). SEM analysis was showed that the distribution of the pores of irregular and elliptical heterogeneous with a pore size obtained 6.15 -11.2 μm. Maximum adsorption was obtained when addition of adsorbent was 1 g adsorbent in 10 g of CPO with a contact time 60 minutes which can reduce free fatty acid (FFA) levels from 6.13% to 0.79% with effective adsorption 87.03%.
