Sintesis Nanokitosan Dengan Metode Gelasi Ionik Menggunakan Pelarut Asam Formiat Dengan Variasi Konsentrasi Kitosan Dan Rasio Kitosan Dengan Natrium Tripolifosfat
ABSTRACT
Nanocitosan is a physical modification of chitosan by reducing the size of
chitosan to nano size. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of
variations in the concentration of chitosan and the volume ratio between chitosan
solution and NaTPP solution to the size of the nanocitosan that has been
produced and to determine the characteristics of nanocitosan with Particle Size
Analyzer (PSA), Zeta Potential Analyzer, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
and Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) analysis methods. The first step for
making nanocitosan is to make a 1% formic acid solution and 0.1% NaTPP
solution. After that, chitosan solution with various concentrations (0.1%, 0.2%
and 0.3%) is stirred using a magnetic stirrer. After 15 minutes stirring, sodium
tripolyphosphate (NaTPP) solution at a volume ratio between chitosan and
NaTPP each 3:1; 5:1 and 7:1 are added slowly to the chitosan solution. Stirring
continues for up to 1 hour with a stirring speed of 1200 rpm. The last one is the
characterization of nanocitosan. Chitosan from dried shrimp industrial waste has
a degree of deacetylation that matches the chitosan quality standard, which is
76%. From this research, there is one sample that had nano-sized particle as the
results. The best particle size and value of nanocitosan polydispersity index are
found in run A (0.1%; (3: 1)) with a size of 464.4 nm, polydispersity index value
of 0.214 and potential zeta value of 0.48. From SEM analysis, it showed no
spherical morphology that found as the results. While from the FTIR analysis
showed the presence of cross bonds between chitosan and NaTPP.
