Pengaruh Waktu Adsorpsi Ion Pb2+ Terhadap Efektivitas Adsorben Bubuk Ampas Teh
ABSTRACT
Heavy metals can be bad for the environment and health. Lead (Pb) is a very dangerous
heavy metal with carcinogenic properties, which can cause health effects because it has toxic
properties so that it blocks the work of enzymes in the body which can cause the body's
metabolism to be cut off. Adsorption is a method that can be used to reduce the ion
concentration in a polluted solution. Tea dregs contain 29.42% cellulose, 36.94% lignin,
4.53% ash and 15.22% extractive which have the ability to absorb metal ions. The research
objectives were to determine the ability of tea dregs to absorb Pb2+ ions, to determine the
adsorption equilibrium time of tea dregs powder as Pb2+ ion adsorbent and to compare the
effectiveness of activated tea dregs powder adsorbent with unactivated tea dregs powder.
This research began with reducing the size of the tea dregs through 200 mesh, then activated
by soaking the tea powder dregs in 0.1 N HCl solution for ± 24 hours. Furthermore, the
adsorption process was carried out by contacting the adsorbent with Pb2+ ion based on the
difference in contact time of 10,20,30,40,50 and 60 minutes. Adsorbent weight of 1 gram. The
stirring speed is 100 rpm and the Pb2+ concentration is 10 ppm. The concentration of the
adsorption solution was then analyzed using AAS. Based on the research results, tea dregs
powder can be used as adsorbent for Pb2+ ion with water content that meets SNI. The
equilibrium time of adsorption of Pb2+ ion with tea dregs powder adsorbent at contact time
was 40 minutes. The % effectiveness of adsorbent absorption against Pb2+ ion is best found in
the activated adsorbent than without activation. The highest absorption %effectiveness was
found in the activated tea dregs powder adsorbent, namely 89.26%
