The role of the principal is very important in an institution or a school, the
role of the principal certainly has a big influence on the school he leads. The role
of the principal is also influential in a field, namely in the field of extracurricular,
in this activity the role of the principal is needed for the success of an activity and
achieving a desired vision and mission. In the role of the principal of course also
has each role, namely the role of the principal as an educator, manager,
administrator, leader, supervisor, embodiment of a conductive work climate, in
this role it is seen which role is prominent in the principal's leadership.
For this reason, the researcher was conducted to explain that of the several
principal roles, which role of the principal is the most influential in
extracurricular activities, so that the achievement of extracurricular activities
runs well and smoothly as desired Not only that, of course, extracurricular
activities must also be an activity that makes the school proud and makes the
school proud so that the school has its own value in marketing. This research uses
qualitative research with descriptive method. Data collection techniques used
interviews, observations, documentation which were carried out directly with
several sources, namely school principals, teachers, extracurricular coaches at
SMP Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. This research uses qualitative research using
descriptive methods, in this study the instrument is a person or human instrument,
namely the researcher himself. The type of data used in this research is qualitative
data. Meanwhile, the sources of data collected and used in this research are
primary data and secondary data.
After conducting research, it was found that the role of the principal in good
extracurricular activities or those who are very influential in extracurricular
activities, there are three, namely the role of the principal as an educator who is
always a good educator for his school, the second role of the principal as a leader
is the role of being a role model or a good leader for the school, the three roles of
the principal as a supervisor who always prioritize kinship within the school
environment, so that achievement in extracurricular activities becomes easier
with the enormous encouragement of the principal himself.
