Analisa Sifat Magnetik Dan Morfologi Nanopartikel Magnetik Disintesis Menggunakan Ball Milling Melalui Variasi Ukuran Bola Milling
ABSTRACT
Magnetic and morphological properties of magnetic nanoparticles of natural sand
from Sungai Suci Bengkulu beach have been determined. The magnetic
nanoparticles were synthesized using ball milling as a function of size of the
milling balls. Separation of iron oxide and non iron oxide particles of the samples
were done by Niodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnets. The product is called
NdFeB product. The product of NdFeB was milled using a combination of
milling ball with diameter of 0.5 , 0.7 and 1.5 cm. The results are called BM I
products. The BM I product was then divided into 3 parts. Each product was
millied as a function of milling balls size, namely 0.5, 0.7 and 1.5 cm. The results
are called BM II A, BM II B and BM II C products. Magnetic induction of
solenoid (Bo) and total magnetic induction of solenoid (Bt) was measured using
Pasco magnetic probe PS-216 as a function of electric currents of 200, 400, 600,
800 and 1000 mA. The calculation of the magnetic susceptibility was carried out
based the values of Bo and Bt for the BM II A, BM II B and BM II C product.
The results show that the magnetic susceptibility of the samples increases from
6147 x 10-5, 7774 x 10-5, 10428 x 10-5 with increasing milling ball size of 0.5, 0.7
and 1.5 cm, respectively. The magnetic properties based on hysteresis loop of the
products of BM I, BM II A and BM II C were determined using vibrating sample
magnetometer (VSM). The results show that magnetization saturation (Ms),
magnetization remanance (Mr), magnetic coercivity (Hc), loop squareness
(Mr/Ms) and loop area of BM II product increase with increasing milling ball size.
The BM I product has lower magnetic properties as proven by the relatively low
Ms, Mr and Hc values compared to that of BM II product. Scanning electron
miscroscope (SEM) was utilized in order to determine the morphology of
magnetic nanoparticles of BM II A, BM II B and BM II C products. SEM results
show that the particle size of the sample decreases with increasing milling ball
size. However, the BM II product using milling ball size 1.5 cm shows that the
particles experience agglomeration due to the presence of inter-particle attraction.
