Human Immunodeficiency Virus - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(HIV-AIDS) is one of the sexually transmitted diseases that threaten health and
the lifes of future generations. Teenagers are a group of people who have a high
risk and vulnerable the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases especially HIVAIDS,
and there are many teenagers have free sex. The aim of this study is to
determined the influence of counseling on the level of students knowledge about
transmission of HIV-AIDS in SMAN 1 Gaung Anak Serka Kabupaten Indragiri
Hilir. This study was pre experiment design with one group pretest-posttest. The
samples were 93 students. The instruments of this study were questionnaire that is
filled out twice, before and after counseling. Analysis of the results were carried
out using marginal homogeneity test. The results showed that the level of students
knowledge before the counseling was excellent category (2.2%) and less category
(12.9%). The level of the students knowledge after counseling into excellent
categoriy (19.4%) and less category (1.1%). The results showed that there was
difference the level of students knowledge after counseling with the value of p =
0.000. The conclusion was the counseling influences on improving the level of
students knowledge about transmission of HIV-AIDS.
