Respon pertumbuhan Buah pada tanaman Melon (Cucumis melo L. var. reticulatus) dengan pemberian Giberelin (GA3)

Melon (Cucumis melo L. var. reticulatus) is a horticultural plants with single fruit on
one main stem. Productivity of melon can increased with double fruit on the two main
stems. This research aims to study the response of fruit growth on the two main stems
of melon (C. melo L. var. reticulatus) after GA3 treatment. This study was conducted
from June to October 2009 at Biology research field, Faculty of Mathematics and
Natural Sciences, University of Riau. Research conducted in a randomized block
design with a single factor at five levels of GA3 concentration (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100
mg/l), with three replications. The application of GA3 has done in three times during
vegetative growth (15 day after transplantation), early flowering (25 day after
transplantation) and fruit growth (35 days after transplantion). The results showed that
GA3 has the ability to increase vegetative growth (plant height and specific leaf
weight) with average increasing tendency at GA3 50 and 75 mg/l and has ability to
increase fruit growth (average fruit weight, average fruit circumference and total
weight fruit/plant) with average increasing tendency of the highest rates at GA3 75
mg/l.
