Hubungan Perbaikan Defisit Neurologis Pada Pasien Stroke Iskemik Dengan Lama Waktu Kedatangannya Di Bagian Saraf RSUD Arifin Achmad
Background and Aim : Time from onset of ischemia until initiation of
treatment is critical for success for any therapy. However, most of ischemic
stroke’s patients come to hospital more than 24 hour after onset. The aim of this
study is to determined the time from symptom onset to hospital admission and its
association with neurological deficit improvement in ischemic stroke’s patient at
Neurology Department, Arifin Achmad General Hospital. Design : This is
a prospective study that held in ischemic stroke’s patient that hospitalized in
Merak II, Arifin Achmad General Hospital, from April until July 2010, using
NIHSS as parameter of neurological deficit improvement. The patient was
evaluated first in the day they came and then the fifth day in hospital.
Result : from 34 patient, 7 subjects (21%) has NIHSS improvement,
22 subjects (65%) has no NIHSS significant change, and impairment of NIHSS
score in 5 subjects (15%). With 19 patients (55,9%) admitted within 24 hours
of symptom onset and 15 patients (44,1%) admitted more than 24 hours after
stroke onset. Statistic test between hospital admission time with neurological
deficit improvement in ischemic stroke patient show p value=0,009. Conclusions :
There was significant association between neurological deficit improvement in
ischemic stroke’s patients with patient’s hospital admission time.
Key words : Ischemic Stroke, Hospital admission time, Neurological deficit
improvement, NIHSS
