Abstract
Introduction: Mother's milk (ASI) is the best given to babies until the age of 6 months. The
reason for the failure of mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding is that mothers are busy
working. This study aims to determine the relationship between the type of work and mother's
knowledge about the practice of exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: The design of this study is a
descriptive quantitative correlation study with a cross sectional study method. Data were
collected using a questionnaire on maternal knowledge about how to express breast milk,
mother's knowledge about how to store breast milk and mother's knowledge about breastfeeding
which consisted of 45 questions to 96 respondents using accidental sampling technique on
working mothers in the Pekanbaru City area. Data analysis used univariate analysis and
bivariate analysis with Chi-Square test. Results: The type of work with breastfeeding practices
on how to express breast milk is high (56.3%) and there is a significant relationship between the
type of work and mother's knowledge about how to express breast milk with p value 0.020 <
(0.05). high storage method (49.0%) shows a p-value of 0.046 < (0.05) there is a significant
relationship between the type of work and mother's knowledge about breast milk storage. The
way of giving is high (53.1%) with p-value 0.244 > (0.05) there is no relationship between type
of work and mother's knowledge about breastfeeding. Conclusion: the type of mother's work
with breastfeeding practices has a significant relationship with mother's knowledge about how to
express breast milk, the type of mother's work has a significant relationship with the storage
method, and the type of mother's work has no relationship with the method of giving.
