The Correlation Between The English Teachers’ Questioning Skills And Their Students’ Participation In The Efl Learning Process At SMA Negeri 1 Rokan IV Koto
This reseacrh consists of two variables, they are English teachers’ questioning skills as the independent variable (X) and students’ participation as the dependent variable (Y). The objective of this research is to find out whether or not there is a positive and significant correlation between the English teachers' questioning skills and their students' participation in the EFL learning process at SMA Negeri 1 Rokan IV Koto. Applying a quantitative approach with a correlational research design, the population of this research were 2 English teachers and 253 students of SMA Negeri 1 Rokan IV Koto, while the sample or the research subjects were 2 English teachers and 39 students who were selected using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. There were three data collection techniques used, including: questionnaire, observation, and documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher employed the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 program. The findings revealed the correlation coefficient (rxy) between the two variables is 0.804 and is classified at a very high level of correlation, which is rxy > rtable at 0.05 and 0.01 significant level (0.804 > 0.316 and 0.804 > 0.408). In addition, the coefficient of determinant of the English teacher's questioning skills on student participation is 0.646 (64.6%). Therefore, it can be deduced that the research hypothesis is accepted, it means there is a positive and significant correlation between the English teachers' questioning skills and their students' participation in the EFL learning process at SMA Negeri 1 Rokan IV Koto.
