Strategi Mengatasi Terjadinya Surging Pada Air Compressor Di Oxygen Plant #2
ABSTRACT
The compressor is a mechanical machine that functions to compress gas fluid or increase air pressure. In industry, the use of compressors is very important, either as a single instrument producing high pressure air or as an integral part of a machine. In compressors, there is a surging phenomenon that must be avoided, surging is an instability phenomenon that occurs when the flow rate is low. This study aims to determine the causes of surging and how to overcome the occurrence of surging in air compressors. This research was carried out by observing each component in the compressor, analyzing the causes and looking for solutions that could be given, and in the last step conclusions would be drawn based on the analysis that has been done. When surging occurs, the incoming air flow became 1.6741 Nm3/h and the air pressure became 3.9288 barg. Surging was caused by the high air temperature resulting from the damage or dirty cooler used and the high temperature of the cooling water used so that the mass flow of air entering the compressor became smaller than it should be.
