Finance is one of the important aspects needed by everyone for survival. If someone is wrong in behaving towards their finances, it will have fatal consequences, such as bad decision making and will have an impact on poverty. There are several things that can influence someone to behave in their finances such as financial attitude, level of education, quality of education, numeracy skills, peers, financial literacy, lifestyle, income level and family. Therefore, a person must have good financial behavior so that his finances can be organized.
This study aims to analyze the effect of financial attitudes and peers on financial behavior in the presence of student financial literacy. This research was conducted at the Economics Education Study Program, University of Riau in February - June 2023. Data was collected through questionnaires and documentation. The number of respondents was recorded as 115 students using the saturated sample technique (census). The sample criteria in this study were Bachelor of Economics Study Program Students class of 2020 in the Accounting, Cooperative and UKM classes. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on variance, namely Partial Least Square (PLS) with the help of the SmartPLS 4.0 program and T-test in the SPSS program to see gender differences in peer variables.
Based on the results of the study, it shows that there is an influence of financial attitudes and peers on financial behavior through student financial literacy. In addition, it was also found that there were differences between men and women in financial behavior which had an impact on decision making. Therefore, students are expected to be able to have a good financial attitude and have friends who have financial intellectuals in order to improve their financial behavior such as making wise decisions.
