Akomodasi Komunikasi Dalam Antar Budaya Suku Banjar Dengan Suku Melayu Di Desa Sanglar, Kecamatan Reteh, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir, Provinsi Riau
Indragiri Hilir Regency is a district located in Riau Province. Various ethnic
groups living in Inhil, including Malay and Banjar. The Banjar people who live in
Indragiri Hilir Regency are descendants of former Banjar migrants who came from
South Kalimantan. The process of interaction between people with different cultural
backgrounds also occurs in Sanglar Village, Reteh District. With every difference and
cultural differences they have can have an impact on someone's communication with
each other. In order to avoid this indirectly, communication accommodation or
communication adjustments are made to suit the style and attitude of communication,
but inappropriate accommodations when interacting will actually create new
misunderstandings and can also trigger conflict. This study aims to analyze
communication accommodation in intercultural interactions between the Banjar
people and the Malay people in Sanglar Village, Reteh District, Indragiri Hilir
Regency, Riau Province.
In this study, researchers used a type of qualitative research with an
ethnographic approach. The research subjects consisted of 4 Banjarese people and 4
Malay people who were selected using purposive sampling. This study used data
collection techniques, namely non-participant observation, in-depth interviews and
documentation.
After analyzing the research and discussion conducted by the researchers, the
following conclusions can be drawn regarding communication accommodation
between the Banjar and Malay communities in Sanglar Village. First, the
convergence strategy used involves verbal and nonverbal communication, where the
aim is to create familiarity, interest, and harmony. Second, the divergence strategy
used by the two communities aims to maintain ethnic and cultural diversity, and to
show their existence as one tribe. Third, the label of excessive accommodation or
overaccommodation is given due to errors in the use of language, excessive sharing
of experiences and knowledge, and adaptation to excessive communication distance
without considering physical conditions.
