The background of this research is that Dumai City has a vision, namely to create quality human resources with Malay identity. Quality human resources must be supported by quality education. In accordance with the vision of Indonesian Education where driving schools are the catalyst for realizing this vision and Dumai City is trying to realize the vision of Indonesian Education, as evidenced by the existence of several schools in the city of Dumai that have passed the driving school program, one of which is SMAN 1 Dumai, here the author took SMAN 1 became the research because SMA Negeri 1 is a favorite high school in the city of Dumai, and has a principal who is also the head of the MKKS of SMAs in the city of Dumai..
The aim of this research is to explain and analyze the leadership characteristics of school principals in developing the driving school program at SMAN 1 Dumai City. To explain and analyze the factors that support the principal's leadership in developing the driving school program at SMA Negeri 1 Dumai City.To explain and analyze the principal's leadership efforts in developing a driving school program at SMA Negeri 1 Dumai City
The results of this research indicate that the leadership characteristics of school principals in developing driving school programs are close to the description of leadership according to the theory of The Power of Leadership by Lutuhayu Claire. What appears strong in the Principal's leadership is the 10 (Ten) characteristics, namely confident, firm and nurturing, tough and clever at solving problems, inspiring and building, intelligent and motivating, capable of communicating, adept at influencing and directing, a reliable negotiator, not easily hurt and forgiving, able to give a sense of justice and creative and innovative. Factors that support the leadership of school principals in developing driving school programs are communication skills, availability of resources, agreement and also the environment. The efforts made by the school principal in developing a driving school program are by increasing all existing assets in the school.
