An Analysis Of Illocutionary Acts In “The School For Good And Evil” Movie
This study aimed to analyze the types of illocutionary acts performed by main characters and to find out the most dominant type of illocutionary acts performed by the main characters in “The School for Good and Evil” movie.. The School for Good and Evil movie tells the story of adventure between two best friends (Sophie and Agatha) in their new school. Descriptive quantitative and qualitative research were used as the method. The document analysis check lists were used to analyze the illocutionary acts performed by the main characters. The study revealed that the two main characters perform illocutionary acts in their dialogue and classify them into 5 types which were Representative type, Directive Type, Commissive Type, Expressive Type and Declarative Type. The total number of utterances for each type are 287 utterances of representative illocutionary acts (56.8%), 171 utterance of directive illocutionary acts (33.4%), 16 utterances commissive illocutionary acts (3.5%), 33 utterances expressive illocutionary acts (6,1%), and 1 utterance declarative illocutionary act (0.2%). The most dominant type of illocutionary act is representative type with 56.8% and the least type of illocutionary act is declarative type with 0.2%.
